Grief Reaction??

Our round today was at Princess Basmah Teaching Hospital that take us only 5 minutes to go there by taxi. Just a week more to be prepared for the OSCE and miniOSCE examination. So, today we make decision to just take focus history of 5 minutes duration from patient. Alhamdulillah we got around four patients for the practice and they all cooperated well.

After that, we have echo session with Dr Mahmood, a cardiologist. We waited at the lobby until a tall male patient of around 40 years old came. He looked pretty well but he will be doing echocardiogram, so i just wondered what is his real problem.

Doctor asked him, "What's your name?"
He cannot speak well, just mumbling and we didn't understand what is his true word. So, he wrote his name at the chair.

Doctor asked much more questions and he answered using his handwriting again. After a while, doctor asked him to pronounced Allah. For my amazement, he pronounced it well. Not really well i think, but much better than any other words. Then, doctor asked him to pronounce Muhammad, but he pronounced it Ahmad.

Then, doctor asked us about the problem that he had. Our CR then answered, "It is Broca's area problem, the Wernicke's area is still intact because he understood well what you were saying. But, he cannot speak and pronounce every word well."

All of us nodded silently. We agreed with the answer. But somehow, there was something not right here.

Doctor then asked him to walk for us to see his gait. Then, he just follow the doctor's command.

"See! His gait is normal." Then, doctor asked him to rise his hand. He raised his hand. Doctor also asked him to protrude his tongue and he followed all the command well.

Doctor once again asked us, " Did you see any abnormalities with him? His motor function for example."

All of us answered it together, "No, doctor."

Then, doctor asked him to enter the echo's room. One of my friend asked, "Is he having stroke doctor? And because of that his Broca's area affected and he cannot speak?"

Doctor answered her, "No, he's not having any abnormalities regarding the brain. If the Broca's area affected, motor function will be affected as well. He can speak but he just don't want to speak. He was sent here because of sudden collapsed after receiving news about the death of her brother. Maybe it is a grief reaction."

So, actually he can speak but he don't want. That is the conclusion. After all, he still can pronounced Allah.

Doctor continued, "He can pronounced the word 'Allah' because it is a must for him to be able to pronounce it."

Grief reaction.. I want to search more about this but exam is just a week more.

I just wonder about a person i really love; my mom. How did she faced all the trials in her life.

will be continued...
