2nd Disember

Just now, received 2 news, one about death of a patient and the other about born of my niece.

Female patient with clinical presentation of jaundice and ascites was diagnosed with Budd-Chiari syndrome. Some facts from medscape;

Budd-Chiari syndrome is an uncommon condition induced by thrombotic or nonthrombotic obstruction of hepatic venous outflow and characterized by hepatomegaly, ascites, and abdominal pain. The prognosis is poor in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome who remain untreated, with death resulting from progressive liver failure in 3 months to 3 years from the time of diagnosis.Following portosystemic shunting, however, the 5-year survival rate for patients with the syndrome is 38-87%. The actuarial 5-year survival rate following liver transplantation is 70%

The news shocked me a lot. I still remember the smile on her face when we ask her to do the physical examination. All doctors love her i think. She was really nice and with her weakness, she can still coorperate with us. May Allah bless her always.

About my niece, she just being borned today at evening. My abang zul's daughter. InsyaAllah may she become a good hamba and khalifah and may she receive good tarbiyah from her parents.

Just now, we have our round with Dr Khaled Jadallah. Her communication skill and teaching skill amazed me a lot. He is a gastroenterologist. He will teach us in lecture about inflammatory bowel disease and hepatitis.

One of his saying just now,

" You will become either a brilliant doctor or (i didn't remember what's the word that he used just now but something about a bad doctor). There's nothing in between "

" There are doctors who are likeabled by the ptn and who are not. To be likeabled by the ptn, it is a gift. "
